I am in a local mommy group on Facebook. A few days ago, one of the moms was expressing her frustration about her family’s constant input about how she was raising her children. I could relate oh-so-well to that.
For a long time, I felt resentment towards my mother for constantly criticizing how I was raising my son. It felt like I couldn’t do anything right in her eyes.

One piece of advice that I have often heard over the 4 years that I have been a mom is that children thrive on routines.
People all over the world have a variety of ways to celebrate the beginning of a new year. Many people view a new year as being a clean slate – a chance to do things differently than they did the year before. That is why so many people have traditions such as setting New Year’s Resolutions. These resolutions represent their hopes for the next year in their life.
One such tradition that I really have been drawn to is the idea of choosing a word that you want to represent your year.
Notes from my day:
1. I went to Walmart today with a budget of $50 to buy Christian gifts for Christmas. As I was looking at the exorbitant prices for the toys and glanced around at the shopping carts filled to the brim with these money-sucking objects, I realized just how ridiculous this holiday has become.
2. I stuck to my budget (went over a bit because of taxes) and got Christian a gift he has been begging for (though a different brand because they didn’t have the exact one,

Oh, how I long for the days when my son would eat just about anything I put in his mouth.
