Holy cow! I have a kindergartner! Tomorrow is the first day of school for us and I can’t believe that my son is officially in kindergarten. It doesn’t seem like it has been nearly 6 years since he came into my life, yall. Sometimes I look at him and am a bit shocked at how much he has grown. He is already up to my chest. Considering I am 5’9″, that’s pretty dang tall for a 5 year old!

Anyone that knows me knows that one of my favorite hobbies is curling up somewhere to read a good book. This has always been the case. You may recall from another post that I have mastered the art of walking while reading – without bumping into anything.

Here’s something that you may not know about me: I’m a history buff. Or at least, I love learning about people, events, and cultures from the past. I am especially interested in ancient civilizations. Now that Christian is older (he officially starts Kindergarten in the Fall – what?!),
It’s easy to think of adventure as something out of reach… too self-indulgent, too expensive, too time-consuming. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
This past year I’ve embraced the idea of “micro-adventures” as a way to add more excitement and inspiration to my daily life. A micro-adventure can be almost anything. As long as it’s easy, exciting (whatever that means for you), and breaks up your routine.
As I have mentioned a few times before, I am a long-time fan of Highlights and their magazines. It started when I was a child. I clearly remember being excited whenever I would see the latest issue of Highlights magazine in a waiting room. I would devour it from cover to cover. Now, my son has the chance to fall in love with them. For the past several months, he has been receiving their Puzzle Buzz magazine and loves them!
