brave-blog-dear-diary

I first started blogging in September of 2010. When I wrote my first post I had about a month left before Christian was scheduled to arrive (little did I know that he would arrive nearly 2 weeks early – you can read about his early arrival here) and my intention was for my blog to be a sort of online diary. A place for me to come and write out my thoughts, the things that were going on in my life, Christian’s progress. Things like that. In fact, my blog was initially called “My Life as a First Time Mommy”. It wasn’t until about a year after becoming a single mom that I changed the name to Single Mommy Warrior.

I have realized that over time, my blog has changed. A lot. As has my life. And that is not a bad thing. Change happens. We live, learn, and we grow. However, I do actually regret that as my blog has grown, I have moved away from that initial intention that I had of journaling my life. I find that I don’t even talk much about Christian on my blog any more (though the followers of my fan page definitely get an earful, lol!). I want to change that. I want to get back to my blogging roots.

So starting tonight (hopefully) I want to purposefully start doing what it was that I initially set out to do — doing recaps of what is going on in my life. I am sure that I won’t post every single day. I think that, for me, that is a bit unrealistic. And I don’t want to overwhelm myself. However, I want to make a regular habit of it. I used to keep a diary when I was a child. A series of diaries, actually. And it was a very cathartic experience for me. It helped me to get my emotions out rather than holding them in (something that helps to keep me sane). I think that it also helped me to hone my writing skills. Thinking about it, it was really something that played a role in me becoming the person I am today – someone who is expressive, open, and loves working with words. I am also someone who enjoys reflecting on things and seeing how far I have come. Journaling used to be a big part of my life and I look forward to getting back to it.

Some posts may be boring. Some may be exciting. They will all be part of my journey. And one day I will be able to look back on them and reflect. And reflection is just as much a part of our life as anything else, really.
